Everton: Premier League face ‘difficult’ problem after what happened at Goodison Park

The Premier League are set to discuss timescales surrounding points deductions after what has happened to Everton at a shareholder meeting on 10 April, according to Sky Sports.

The sports news outlet reported via its website on 10 April that with Everton and Nottingham Forest’s appeals potentially being heard after the end of the season, this has become a key issue.

However, it is also described as a “difficult” problem to solve after clubs previously pushed for changes which have directly led to criticism of the process.

The Sky Sports report explained that financial breaches reported in one year were punished in the next year, but clubs pushed for a fast-track system, which has now caused issues surrounding the timescales to get the punishments confirmed.

This comes after Everton and Nottingham Forest were handed deductions of four and two points respectively, with both clubs set to appeal and a backstop date set for 24 May – which comes after the end of the Premier League season.

The decision was met with widespread outrage both from the clubs and the fans as it means the relegation battle in which both Forest and Everton are involved may not be resolved before the season is already over.

With all 20 Premier League clubs set to attend the shareholder meeting, it remains to be seen what conclusions, if any, they will come to solve yet another emerging issue from the most reputable league in the world.
