Everton: Premier League legal team now ‘lined up’ after latest Goodison Park development

The Premier League’s legal team is reportedly prepared to face potential claims from Everton, Luton, Brentford or Leicester this summer after the recent points deduction decisions.

This is according to Yasin Patel, a sports lawyer at Church Court Chambers, who insisted the Premier League will be ready for any legal challenge this summer as it remains a possibility.

It is said that the Toffees could lose “hundreds of millions” if they are relegated this season as a result of the points deductions.

Speaking to the i [10 April], Patel explained: “The Premier League have got their legal team lined up for legal battles, whether it be from Luton, Brentford, Everton or Leicester.

“The Premier League is nothing but a company, and like any business, if Everton think they’ve been wronged by another business, the Premier League, of course they can go to court.

“If you lose your Premier League status, what comes with that are hundreds of millions worth of losses, players leaving, television rights etc.”

Everton could drag Premier League into legal battle

If they find themselves relegated this season, the Goodison Park club could drag the Premier League into a legal battle given the perceived injustice and inconsistency with which they have delivered their points deductions.

There has been outrage all season about the decisions made by the league from all angles, whether it be politicians, pundits or fans, as the Premier League has come under intense scrutiny for its decision-making, especially over the PSR breaches.

Relegation would be a daunting prospect for Everton given their financial situation given the new stadium costs and the amount of money owed to creditors, so it is ironic and a shame that their finances could be what lands them in that situation.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

If the club is relegated, it should have every right to challenge the Premier League in a legal setting given what has repeatedly been viewed as unjust and unbalanced judgement compared to the treatment other clubs receive.

In other Everton news, Arsenal could also suffer as a result of the deductions.
