Everton takeover: 777 Partners request deadline extension from MSP Sports Capital – Sky News

777 Partners has requested an extension to the loan repayment deadline needed to complete their takeover of Everton, according to Sky News.

The broadcaster reported via their website on 10 April that the American firm had asked for more time to raise hundreds of millions to get the deal done, with the near-£160million loan from MSP Sports Capital almost due.

The two companies had been in talks this week with the deadline for repayment currently next Monday (15 April).

According to Sky News it is not yet clear if MSP have responded to the request as 777 “scrambles” to raise the money needed.

The Premier League set out a series of conditions late last month that had to be met for their conditional approval of the deal to be secured, with the loan repayment the most pressing.

777 now under major pressure on Everton takeover?

The Josh Wander and Steven Pasko-founded firm had reportedly been confident of their ability to fund this takeover and a three-year business plan in recent days.

So if they are now scrambling for more time to get the cash together in order to get it over the line then something doesn’t tie up.

But it perhaps shouldn’t be a major surprise in light of the fact that the Premier League’s letter to the Everton Fan Advisory Board (3 April) had seemingly hinted the reason for the near-30-week delay in ruling on the takeover was dissatisfaction at proof of funding.

The months since the 15 September deal with Farhad Moshiri was announced have not appeared to be smooth for 777, given multiple lawsuits in the US and new issues involving sources of funding.

So to suddenly have the money now in the wake of the league’s conditions emerging, which also involves converting the near-£200m they have loaned to the Toffees into equity, showing proof of funds to finish the new stadium build, and money into an escrow account to bankroll the rest of the season at Goodison Park, would be a surprise.

If they are unable to meet the imminent deadline and are asking for more time within the final five days of it arriving that isn’t a great sign that they can get this deal done, so MSP’s response will now be key.
