Journalist shares date Everton may have to sell key player amid PSR verdict

Everton could be forced to sell key players before June 30th in order to avoid a third points deduction in the 2024/25 season, according to Joe Thomas.

Writing on the Liverpool Echo website (10 April), the news journalist reports that the figures in the latest PSR verdict which saw the club deducted two more points indicate the club will need another major sale before the next accounts deadline.

That date is June 30th 2024, just 16 days after the transfer window opens on June 14th 2024, meaning Everton may be forced to sell a key player early on to comply with the rules.

“The numbers, therefore, point to the unhappy potential for a club that has already sold a host of big names in failed attempts to comply with league rules needing to find another sale between June 14, the day the transfer window opens, and June 30, the accounting deadline, in order to avoid another battle with the Premier League – and another potential deduction next season,” he wrote.

Everton to lose Branthwaite or Onana early doors?

It seems as though the club are going to be forced into major changes early on in the 2024/25 season, with a two week period to sell a key player.

There has been plenty of speculation around the futures of Jarrad Branthwaite, with interest from the likes of Manchester United, and Amadou Onana, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona strongly too.

And it now seems sure that one of those players will be moved on early in the transfer window in a huge blow to Everton and Sean Dyche.

The club will be hoping they’re still a Premier League side at that point, which will certainly make it easier to replace anyone who leaves but this situation leaves the club vulnerable.

Rival clubs will be looking to exploit the situation, much like Tottenham did with Richarlison a few years ago, and there’s little the Toffees can do to save themselves at this point.
