Everton: Danny Murphy raves over ‘Absolutely Exquisite’ moment in Chelsea clash

Danny Murphy raved over Chelsea’s Cole Palmer as he netted four goals during a 6-0 victory over Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday (15 April).

The Toffees had a brilliant chance to open the scoring after 10 minutes, with Beto skying an effort from four yards before the Chelsea star netted a first-half hat-trick and a penalty in the second half.

Of all four goals, including chipping Jordan Pickford from the best part of 30 yards, Murphy was seemingly the most impressed by Palmer’s first goal on the night.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Monday (15 April, 8:13pm), the former Liverpool midfielder said: “Absolutely exquisite. Lovely little flick around Branthwaite, then another flick around the corner for a one-two with Jackson, and the finish is just sublime.

“The confidence, the awareness…he’s nutmegged both centre-halves in the first 10 minutes, then the little flick and the awareness of where Jackson is.

“Can he produce? Bottom corner, side-foot, calm, cool and collected. This lad is some player – what a joy to watch.”

Everton suffer massive loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

As Palmer registered himself as the Premier League’s joint-top scorer, alongside Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Everton were dealt a rather damning defeat.

Just two points above Luton Town in the relegation zone, the six-goal defeat could have vital repercussions if the season comes down to goal difference.

The Toffees’ defence has been remarkable this season, with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite building a formidable relationship at the back, but scoring has certainly been an issue.

Nottingham Forest’s goal difference is now equal with Everton’s. Considering both clubs’ issues with PSR this season, shipping six goals at Stamford Bridge could have a lasting effect.

Of course, with Forest, Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United still left to play, the Toffees have the opportunity to keep their future in their own hands, but the loss to Chelsea will do their confidence no good at all.
