Everton: Jamie Carragher sends ‘Shocking’ message live on Sky Sports after Chelsea loss

Everton were labelled as “shocking” by Jamie Carragher on Sky Sports following their 6-0 Premier League hammering by Chelsea on 15 April.

The Toffees suffered one of the most embarrassing defeats in their history at Stamford Bridge and were 4-0 down at half-time alone with Cole Palmer netting a 29-minute hat-trick.

Speaking post-match alongside Dave Jones and Dele Alli in Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football (15 April, 10:11 pm) studio, Carragher said that no defensively-minded team should ever be losing by such a scoreline.

“No-one should be losing 6-0, but if a team’s really offensive and just have a bad day, they’re caught all over the place defensively, it can happen.

“But when you’re a team that don’t actually score that many goals and you pride yourself on being tough to beat, to go somewhere and lose six is shocking.”

Everton Premier League survival bid takes big hit against Chelsea

Everton were frankly woeful against Chelsea, particularly in a first half which saw them go into the break 4-0 down after Nicolas Jackson scored late on to follow up Palmer’s half-hour hat-trick.

Two further goals followed in the second half, with Palmer notching his fourth from the penalty spot and youngster Alfie Gilchrist completing the rout in the final stages.

Thanks to the weekend prior’s results not going against them, Everton remain two places and two points clear of the bottom three, but their goal difference has understandably taken a very heavy hit following the mauling at Stamford Bridge.

With Nottingham Forest, a team now level with the Toffees on both points and goal difference, next up at Goodison Park, Sean Dyche and his side need to put this horrendous result behind them if they’re to have any confidence whatsoever going into that six-pointer.

The dark clouds are circling over Goodison after Everton’s heaviest defeat of the season, and with the club’s ownership situation still, massively up in the air, it’s now up to the players themselves to take ownership and lead the ailing club in the other direction towards Premier League survival.
