Everton: Neville Southall reacts after brutal 6-0 loss v Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Neville Southall has reacted to Chelsea’s 6-0 thumping of Everton at Stamford Bridge and urged the fans to get behind the team again.
The Toffees were smashed on Monday 15 April and now find themselves two points above the relegation zone with six games remaining, having been hit with two deductions totalling eight points over the season.
But Goodison Park legend Southall took to his personal Twitter account (16 April) to urge the players to start fighting for the club and tell the fans to get behind them ahead of a massive game against Nottingham Forest at home.
“I am certain come Sunday all you blues will fight,” he wrote. “We can only control what we do.
“It’s funny every Evertonian will moan for a couple of days then come Sunday they’ll be up for the fight and give everything they can.
“That’s what I love about our fans. Never beaten. We are like the black knight in Monty Python film.”
Everton must start performing to avoid relegation
There is no doubt that the off-field shenanigans at the club have caused major issues this season for Everton, but the performances on the pitch simply haven’t been good enough.
Obviously, the eight points being deducted from their tally hasn’t helped, and with those eight points the team would be comfortably in mid-table currently and relegation would be an afterthought.
But after going on a run of one win in 15 games, it simply isn’t good enough to keep pointing back at those deductions because the players now aren’t pulling their weight.

The expectations on the pitch are that the team should be giving everything they can, but it doesn’t feel that way when you watch them and that makes it hard to expect them to get out of the situation they’re in.
But the fixtures are kind to Everton in the remainder of the season, and if they can sort themselves out on the pitch then the fans will join them. Everyone has to unite and fight together.
