Everton injury news: Sean Dyche shares update after 6-0 loss v Chelsea
Everton manager Sean Dyche has provided an update on three injured players after a “perfect storm” in the 6-0 loss against Chelsea.
The Toffees lost Seamus Coleman, Jarrad Branthwaite and Nathan Patterson to injuries at Stamford Bridge on 15 April on a shocking evening.
Speaking after the game, Dyche admitted that the injury picked up Patterson looked to be the worst of the three in a not-so-positive update.
“They score six and we get three injuries, so that ain’t a good mix, as bad a mix as I’ve experienced in my career”, Dyche told the club’s YouTube channel.
“Jarrad, we hope is minor but we’ll have to wait and see. Shea’s pulled his groin, we don’t know yet. Patto’s looks a more serious hamstring injury, but we’re going to have to wait and let it settle tomorrow.”
Everton humiliated by Chelsea in Premier League thrashing
Everton had a night to forget at Stamford Bridge, and even with highly-rated Branthwaite and club captain Coleman both on the pitch before half-time, had still conceded four times already as Cole Palmer scored a 16-minute hat-trick.
Coleman’s injury meant he was one of three Toffees players hooked at half-time alongside James Garner and Amadou Onana, but that couldn’t stop the rot as Palmer netted a fourth from the spot before Alfie Gilchrist rounded off the scoring.
To make matters worse, Patterson couldn’t see out the half, coming off with Everton’s third injury of the night just after Chelsea had made it six. Branthwaite had already been withdrawn for Michael Keane in the 57th minute.

Defence is one of the key areas that Sean Dyche prides his teams on, but Everton were absolutely hapless at the back throughout, and that will give every side below them in the table confidence that the Toffees can be reeled in.
With two of their first-choice rearguard potentially missing ahead of crucial games in the fight for Premier League safety, Everton’s chances of staying up may take an even greater hit in the coming weeks.
A 6-0 loss to a side who have struggled themselves this season is demoralising, to say the least, but missing the experience and quality of Coleman and Branthwaite respectively could prove to be the fatal blow in Everton’s survival hopes.
