Everton: Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling share ‘deep trouble’ verdict live on talkSPORT

Ally McCoist, Jeff Stelling and Sam Matterface have insisted Everton are now in deep trouble with relegation after their 6-0 defeat to Chelsea on 15 April.

Both McCoist and Stelling suggested the Toffees could now suffer, with Stelling going as far as to question where their next win would come from.

Matterface, meanwhile, insisted the upcoming clash against Nottingham Forest will be “massive” in deciding who gets relegated, with both sides struggling towards the bottom of the table.

Speaking live on talkSPORT [16 April, 07:13], McCoist shared his view: “Looking at their position at this moment in time, but more importantly I think, looking at their performance, they’re in trouble.”

Stelling echoed his thoughts, sharing: “A lot of people seem to be saying that they’ll be okay, they only need a couple of wins, but where are those wins coming from?

“They’ve won once since mid-December and that was a really fortunate victory against Burnley. I think they’re in deep, deep trouble.”

Matterface then followed up by saying: “If you look at the table now it’s starting to tighten up for Everton, they’re only two points outside of the relegation zone. They have a huge game against Nottingham Forest, it’s absolutely massive.”

Everton in ‘massive’ relegation trouble after Chelsea defeat

The recent blow of another two-point deduction given to Everton will have inspired renewed confidence in both Luton and Nottingham Forest, and with the 6-0 defeat following shortly afterwards, the Toffees’ confidence has taken a huge blow.

Matterface is right – the clash between Everton and Forest will be massive in terms of deciding which team is relegated, with Luton watching on eagerly knowing that their relegation rivals are certain to drop more points.

With fixtures against Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United following the Forest clash, this is far from the final chance for Sean Dyche to pick up points, but a defeat at Goodison Park could spiral into further issues.

Given that all three pundits had predicted Dyche’s team to be in trouble, perhaps it’s time the team started to play like it and show some fight to give themselves the best chance of survival come the end of the season.
