Everton: Sean Dyche sack stance shared after ’embarrassing’ Chelsea loss
Chris Beesley believes that Everton fans must hope Sean Dyche still has control of the dressing room after an “embarrassing” 6-0 loss to Chelsea on Monday (15 April).
A Cole Palmer hat-trick and another from Nicolas Jackson saw the Toffees go into the half-time break 4-0 down before Palmer netted his fourth from the penalty spot after the break and Alfie Gilchrist scored a late sixth.
The defeat leaves Dyche’s side just two points above the Premier League relegation zone, equal on goal difference with Nottingham Forest. The journalist states that the current manager is the right man for the job, however.
Writing for the Liverpool ECHO on Tuesday (16 April), Beesley said: “Everton’s humiliating 6-0 thrashing to Chelsea was painful enough but the beleaguered Blues must hope that manager Sean Dyche hasn’t lost something even more damaging – the dressing room.
“When he first walked into the club, Dyche himself admitted that he’s a ‘Marmite manager’ in that he divides opinion. However, regardless of what individual squad members may or may not think of his methods, given how high the stakes are when it comes to the survival of a football club that has spent more seasons in the top flight than any other, who is the only founder member of both the Football League and Premier League to be ever-presents in the latter and who, despite their current record-breaking drought, has lifted major trophies across nine separate decades – a feat of longevity that only Manchester United and neighbours Liverpool can better – this is no time for anyone to down tools.”
Should Everton contemplate sacking Sean Dyche?
Everton are battling the threat of relegation for the third successive season, having escaped, firstly, under the guidance of Frank Lampard, and Dyche leading them to safety last season.
Due to two separate PSR punishments, the Toffees have been deducted eight points in total this season, which has seen them stranded in a battle with Forest, Luton Town, Brentford and Burnley.
Without the points deductions, Dyche’s side could be sat safely on 35 points, which would see them sitting in 14th place above Crystal Palace.
Though this is no incredible accomplishment, given the situation at Goodison Park, safety would be the the prominent target this season, and Dyche probably would have already accomplished that.

There is no doubt that the uncertainty at the club, with the takeover situation and financial issues, has cast a dark shadow over Goodison Park, which will have played a key role in some of the performances.
Dyche still has time to fix things on the blue half of Merseyside, with matches against Forest, Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United remaining. Everton are extremely unlikely to change managers now.
