Nathan Patterson Everton career all but over after what happened v Chelsea

Nathan Patterson’s career at Everton could be all but over after he suffered a fresh injury problem during the 6-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The Scotland international has found game time at Goodison Park hard to come by this season, often finding himself relegated to fourth-choice right-back under Sean Dyche.

Captain Seamus Coleman, veteran Ashley Young and versatile option Ben Godfrey have regularly been preferred to the former Rangers man, however Patterson got a rare opportunity at Stamford Bridge on Monday night (15 April).

Coleman was forced off with an injury at half-time with the Toffees 4-0 down, and despite Young already being on the pitch and Godfrey also being on the bench it was Patterson who was brought on as a substitute.

It was the first time he has stepped foot on the pitch in the Premier League since January, but also since the ‘slap’ incident with manager Dyche during the most recent international break.

But a rare opportunity took a turn for the worse when the 22-year-old as he suffered a hamstring injury in the closing stages of the game which forced him off the pitch before full-time, with the manager describing it as “more serious”.

With just six games remaining of the campaign and so many options ahead of him preferred for the majority of the season, the chances of Patterson getting another chance are slim.

As such a highly-rated young defender there will no doubt be interest in the summer transfer window, especially with Everton’s financial situation and the potential of relegation looming.

An exit seems inevitable, and Patterson may well have played his final game for the Toffees already.
