Everton: Christian Falk shares key reason why Amadou Onana remains wanted by Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich remain interested in signing Amadou Onana due to the Everton midfielder’s ability to speak German, according to Christian Falk.
Onana has been touted as a target for the likes of Bayern, Barcelona and English clubs Manchester United and Arsenal in recent months.
The Belgium international has struggled to reach his best levels this term and was particularly bad in the 6-0 loss at Chelsea last time out.
However, Bayern continue to keep tabs on Onana ahead of the summer transfer window.
“It is still unclear whether the desired transfer of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad will work,” Falk wrote in his Daily Briefing column [19 April].
“That’s why Bayern continue to monitor Amadou Onana from Everton FC. Since the 22-year-old Belgian also played for Hamburger SV and Hoffenheim, he speaks German.”
Amadou Onana facing uncertain future at Everton
The transfer interest in Onana was not at all surprising in previous windows, but his likely price tag, as well as his form, means the chances of him departing Goodison Park have surely diminished.
That is not to say the 22-year-old cannot return to his best levels, and that has to be his top priority between now and the end of the campaign.
Not because it increases his chances of leaving Everton, but because his form could well be key to whether Everton stay up or go down come the end of the season.
The fact that a European heavyweight such as Bayern remain interested in signing Onana is pretty telling. Players will lose form from time to time, but hopefully he is soon back at his peak levels.
For now, any transfer talk regarding any player – both incoming and outgoing – has to be put to one side.
In other Everton news, chief BBC football writer Phil McNulty says what Onana did against Chelsea was not a good look.
