Everton: Peter Reid shares one Goodison Park wish amid Premier League relegation scrap

Everton great Peter Reid says his “one wish” is that Goodison Park gets to stage Premier League football in its final season.

The Toffees can move a giant step closer to safety with victory over fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest on home soil on Sunday (21 April).

Everton are set to depart long-time home Goodison ahead of the 2025-26 season to move to a new ground at Bramley Moore Dock.

Speaking to the Daily Mail [20 April], Reid said: “If I had one wish it is that next season, our last at Goodison Park, we make sure ‘the old lady’ goes out watching top flight football.

“She’s witnessed some great players down the years, given up some great moments, let’s hope Sunday can be another and we can give her the great farewell she deserves. The fans will respond to that.”

Everton set to leave Goodison Park in 2025

Goodison Park has provided Everton fans with many happy memories down the years – and some painful ones – but there has been one constant over the past 70-plus years: It has staged top-flight football.

The Toffees have been flirting with relegation ever since being hit with the first points deduction earlier in the season, but the picture could look a lot healthier by the end of the weekend.

Victory over Nottingham Forest would move the club five points clear of Luton Town in 18th place with a game in hand to spare. Given Luton’s form, that would surely be enough.

As painful as it will be saying goodbye to Goodison Park, the new ground is coming along very nicely and is undoubtedly a positive step forward for the club.

Now the onus is on the players to ensure it is staging Premier League football in its final year.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could be hit by a nine-point deduction for the start of next season.
