Everton takeover: 777 Partners extension update raises more ‘question marks’ at Goodison

Dan Plumley believes the extension 777 Partners have received to pay back the loan to MSP Sports Capital has raised more “question marks” about the Everton takeover.

It was revealed Toffees owner Farhad Moshiri reached an agreement with the US private equity firm over an extension before the 15 April deadline, allowing prospective owners 777 more time to settle the debt.

The football finance expert questioned why the money wasn’t settled before the deadline if it had been ring-fenced as part of the takeover at Goodison Park.

“I guess from the fans’ side of things, is it good news, bad news or just more news that just keeps reiterating the same question that we keep having?” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“If they’ve agreed an extension, the positives within that are that MSP feel as though they’re still going to get that money. They are willing to give a bit of flex on that deadline to extend a little bit.

“The other side of that is, if that money has been ring-fenced as part of the takeover, then why has this not been sorted by the deadline? You’re kind of in that place with it where you’ve got a little bit of a positive potentially, but you’ve also then got a few question marks.

Josh Wander, one of the co-founders of 777 Partners who want to buy Everton
Dan Friedkin has succeeded where Josh Wander and 777 failed at Everton.

“I just think you go back again to, is that good news or bad news? I’m not so sure it’s either at the minute, it’s just more news.

“But it certainly doesn’t answer the questions, it just kind of keeps that question mark there for the foreseeable.”

Could 777 Partners still complete Everton takeover?

It appears as though 777 have overcome one hurdle for now in their bid to take over Everton, but it still has to find the money to pay back the MSP loan.

If the US investement firm doesn’t have the cash readily available to pay that off, then there has to be questions asked about how it can complete the overall takeover.

As Plumley points out, the latest update doesn’t necessarily answer any questions, with the club’s future still very much up in the air at Goodison.
