Everton vs Nottingham Forest: Glenn Murray slams ‘absurd’ development live on BBC

Glenn Murray has hit out at the “absurd” possibility of Everton, Nottingham Forest and their relegation rivals potentially not knowing who has been relegated until after the season concludes.

Both clubs are protesting points deduction decisions, which in the Toffees’ case may potentially drag on until the week after the 2023-24 Premier League campaign finishes.

The Premier League did state on Friday (19 April) that it was hopeful a verdict would be delivered prior to that, and Murray says the ongoing uncertainty is not fair on anyone.

“I think you’ve just got to shut out the noise and do what you can,” he said on BBC’s Football Focus [20 April, 12:33pm]. “Anything else then is out of the players’ control.

“But for me it’s absurd; it’s ridiculous. At the very least, the fans should know when visiting that ground on the final day if they’re staying up or going down.”

Everton appealing second points deduction

The Premier League asked clubs to submit their accounts earlier than ever in order for punishments to kick in for the current campaign, rather than further down the line.

That part is fair enough. The problem, though, is that the process drags on for so long that we are left in this rather farcical situation.

The Premier League has now come out to say that a decision should be made with regards to Everton’s second points deduction appeal before the season concludes.

On the basis of what we have seen over the past eight months or so, though, do not be surprised if that does not prove to be the case.

Everton just need to simply ensure that the points deduction appeal makes no difference come the final kick on the final day of the season.

And if they are to achieve that, beating Nottingham Forest this weekend is an absolute must.
