Everton: Ally McCoist slams Nottingham Forest live on talkSPORT after Goodison Park controversy
Ally McCoist has slammed Nottingham Forest live on talkSPORT after the statement made following their 2-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.
He went on to explain that, while he thinks Forest may have been right to feel they should have been awarded at least one penalty, the way they went about it was wrong.
The former Rangers man insisted you cannot start accusing referees of cheating, suggesting it would open up the opportunity for all clubs to dictate which officials cover their games.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [22 April, 06:14], McCoist shared: “I think they were right in the respect that I think they should have had at least one, potentially two penalties.
“But they’re totally wrong in the way they went about it and what they’ve said. You can’t be accusing people of supporting other teams and pointing the finger at them, saying that they’re going to go against you because of the team they support.
“You’re accusing somebody of potentially cheating. If you start doing that, you’ll have every club in the country saying ‘We don’t like him so we won’t have him.’ I just think you’re going down a very tricky road if you’re complaining to governing bodies.”
Nottingham Forest embarrass themselves with Everton statement
McCoist saying at least one penalty should have been awarded could be seen as fair based on the decisions. If they had gone against Everton, you’d expect them to be given. But claims from Forest that the poor decision-making is somehow due to bias are farfetched.
Poor decisions are made in almost every game up and down the country – with or without VAR – and while Forest may have been on the receiving end this week, they will likely have benefited from the decisions in the past.
Mark Clattenburg, former Premier League referee and current advisor at Forest, insisted that the club were “victimised” by the officials, and labelled the referee’s performance a “joke” in a rant following the game.

As McCoist says, this would set a dangerous precedent from now on with clubs complaining to the PGMOL and dictating who can referee their games, which simply cannot be allowed to happen.
