Chris Sutton shares ‘fascinating’ Everton v Liverpool verdict amid title claim

Chris Sutton has insisted the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool will be “fascinating” as Sean Dyche’s team could put an end to Jurgen Klopp’s title challenge.

He went on to share his view that Liverpool will create enough chances to win the game but did claim that the Toffees would be fired up for the clash.

With Klopp set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, seeing his final title challenge fall apart at Goodison Park on Wednesday (23 April) would be the cherry on top of a great result for Everton supporters.

Speaking on the BBC Monday Night Club [22 April], Sutton insisted: “They would love nothing more than to basically cement their Premier League survival and to get one over on their arch-rivals

“It’s a fascinating game because Everton will be so fired up for this. Who knows which team Jurgen Klopp is going to pick, he left Salah, Darwin Nunez and Szoboszlai out, made changes and it worked.

“They know that a draw will not be enough. I actually think Liverpool will create enough opportunities against Everton, it’s just about whether they take them or not.”

Could Everton ruin Liverpool title challenge at Goodison Park?

A win for Dyche’s team would all but secure survival, moving them eight points away from Luton in the relegation zone with just four games left to play and to do it in the Merseyside derby would make a victory that much sweeter.

There is plenty of incentive for Everton to head into the clash with energy and optimism to come out on top given the stakes at hand for both clubs and Liverpool’s recent dip in form and performances which have seen their title push stutter.

A 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League kickstarted the concerns at Anfield before a 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace dented their ambitions. Since then, they have won two in a row, but the signs are there that they are beatable.

Everton, meanwhile, recorded a 2-0 victory against Nottingham Forest and, despite plenty of controversy, appear to have found their form again at the perfect moment to save them from the relegation scrap.

As Sutton says, this one will be fascinating.
