Everton concerns continue as ultras protest against 777 Partners’ Red Star ownership

Fans of French third-division side Red Star have begun new protests against 777 Partners’ ownership as concerns surrounding the takeover continue to rise at Everton.

Red Star currently sit top of the French National division by ten points after a huge rise up the leagues, but fans say the issues with the owners cannot be ignored simply due to performances on the pitch.

In a press release from the club’s Tribune Rino Della Negra ultras group, the owners were branded “toxic” and it was said that the situation had to be “exposed” to the wider public.

As detailed by Foot Amateur [23 April], the statement read: “The emotions generated by this rise should not, however, make us ignore the warning signs concerning 777 Partners, the toxic owner of Red Star.

“Two years ago, during the quick sale of our club by Patrice Haddad to 777 Partners, we had already positioned ourselves against the profile of this financial group: frenzied buyer of clubs, lacking any consistency in its acquisitions.

“The elements are accumulating and accelerating, calling into question the financial, legal and moral reliability of 777 Partners.

“The rise now achieved, the context of acceleration of warning signals concerning 777 Partners obliges us to expose this situation to the general public.

“The sporting and financial health of our club must be understood by looking closely at the overall toxic situation of the ultra-indebted group 777 Partners in its entirety.”

777 Partners concerns continue to rise at Everton

The concerns raised by Red Star fans surrounding 777’s legal and moral issues have been shared by Everton supporters throughout the takeover process, with several legal proceedings in the US at the top of the long list of issues.

The group’s concern about what they have labelled as “frenzied” buying of clubs as well as the inconsistencies in the acquisitions will only be strengthened by the ongoing takeover bid at Goodison Park if it is allowed to go through.

Red Star have become the latest club to protest against 777 after previous demonstrations from fans of Standard Liege in Belgium and Hertha Berlin in Germany – setting a worrying precedent for the prospective owners at Everton.
