Everton: PGMOL to release VAR audio to Nottingham Forest after Goodison Park controversy

Nottingham Forest will be sent the audio of conversations between referee Anthony Taylor and VAR Stuart Atwell during their defeat to Everton, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported on its website on Tuesday (23 April) that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will be sent recordings of the audio by the PGMOL in the coming days following several controversial decisions at Goodison Park.

Ashley Young was at the centre of three potential penalty incidents which the officials waved away in Sunday’s (21 April) 2-0 win and Forest were quick to slam Atwell’s decision-making in a social media post after the full-time whistle.

The audio from one of the three penalty decisions could be broadcast publically in the next Referees Mic’d Up programme that is due to air next week with Howard Webb and Michael Owen expected to analyse the calls.

Will Nottingham Forest receive punishment for Everton controversy at Goodison Park?

It isn’t new to see the Premier League decide to release the audio from controversial decisions in the Premier League, but it is normally partnered with an admission of guilt which hasn’t yet come from the PGMOL.

Even the most ardent of Everton supporters would have to admit that the Toffees were incredibly fortunate to get away with all three penalty calls, but these sort of contentious decisions are just part of football.

Hopefully, some clarity will emerge in the coming days so Forest can put their arguments to bed sooner rather than later. The refereeing decisions were probably wrong, but every club has been hit with bad calls this season.

For Everton supporters, the most important thing is that they claimed all three points and took a massive step away from relegation from the Premier League. It doesn’t matter what the PGMOL audio reveals as it won’t change anything in the table.
