Everton v Liverpool Premier League clash predicted by supercomputer

A supercomputer has predicted the most likely outcome of the Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park.

Everton play host to local rivals Liverpool on Wednesday (24 April) seeking back-to-back Premier League victories.

However, Opta Analyst has predicted there is just an 18-per-cent chance of the Toffees coming out on top against Liverpool.

The visitors are given a 56-per-cent likelihood of winning, meanwhile, and a draw has a 25 per cent probability.

Opta’s updated relegation predictor gives Everton just a 1.1-per-cent chance of finishing in the bottom three, with Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton Town still the three favourites for the drop.

Everton’s poor Merseyside derby record vs Liverpool

The Toffees are without a win in 12 Premier League home games against Liverpool and have lost the past two encounters overall.

Indeed, Everton have not so much as scored in any of the past four Merseyside derbies, albeit they registered a 0-0 draw in that run.

Everton have won only one of their past 26 league encounters with Liverpool home and away, coming at Anfield in February 2021.

That record, combined with the sides’ form across this season, means it is no surprise that Everton are second favourites in this one.

However, football does not always play out the way you would expect – see that game in February 2021 – and a surprise could be on the cards.

With a vociferous home crowd behind them and some pressure being lifted after the win over Nottingham Forest, this could be a special night.

Should Sean Dyche’s men come away with a victory, it will mean those relegation fears are a thing of the past, while also coming with the added bonus of derailing Liverpool’s title aspirations. What more could you want?
