Gary Neville blasts Mohamed Salah after what he saw Liverpool star do v Everton

Gary Neville was critical of Mohamed Salah’s role in the build-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goal for Everton against Liverpool.

Calvert-Lewin rose highest from a corner to double the Toffees’ lead against Liverpool at Goodison Park on Wednesday (24 April).

And Neville felt that Salah had a big part to play as Everton went 2-0 up against their Merseyside rivals.

Speaking live on Sky Sports Premier League (9:22 pm, 24 April), Neville said, “The attack came from Salah being sloppy on the ball, they (Liverpool) have made some really sloppy mistakes on the ball tonight.

“And they have not handled the set-pieces, the physical part of the game. Since day dot, you come to Goodison Park, you have to win your headers.”

Everton claim a huge win against Liverpool at Goodison Park

Neville is right to suggest that Liverpool and Salah in particular weren’t at their best against Everton.

It was arguably one of the Reds’ most disappointing performances of the season. However, that shouldn’t take anything away from Everton.

Sean Dyche’s side were brilliant at Goodison, and Calvert-Lewin, in particular, shone, with Neville naming him as his Man of the Match live on Sky Sports.

It is probably not too far-fetched to suggest that this is Everton’s highlight of what has otherwise been a miserable 2023/24 campaign.

While their troubles have by no means gone away, this will feel like some much-needed relief.

Not only does the three points more or less secure Everton’s Premier League status, but it also puts a big dent in Liverpool’s total ambitions at the same time, which will come as a bonus for the Blue half of Merseyside.
