Dominic Calvert-Lewin left Everton insider stunned after what he did to Liverpool star
Bryan King was blown away by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s “outstanding” performance as Everton beat Liverpool 2-0 at Goodison Park on Wednesday (24 April).
The ex-Everton scout was left surprised by the striker’s performance against the Reds.
Calvert-Lewin headed home from a corner in the 58th minute to double Everton’s lead as the Toffees secured a massive three points and put a dent in their Merseyside rivals’ title ambitions.
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – felt that the Liverpool defence just couldn’t live with Everton’s number nine.
“Calvert-Lewin’s goal certainly came as a surprise, but it was magnificent nonetheless,” King said.
“It was a great ball into the box and a great header. His overall performance was also outstanding.
“He led the line well and he was a permanent thorn in the two Liverpool centre-backs’ sides, they just couldn’t handle him, he made Virgil Van Dijk look ordinary.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin comes up with the goods for Everton against Liverpool
Very few would have predicted Van Dijk, who has been one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs this season, to struggle so much against Calvert-Lewin, who has had plenty of issues during the 2023/24 campaign.
And Calvert-Lewin couldn’t have picked a better game to put in his best performance of the season.
The three points against Liverpool all but ensure that the Toffees will remain in the Premier League next year, which is crucial considering the amount of financial uncertainty swirling around Goodison Park.

If the striker can continue to perform in this manner, Everton will have ambitions of fighting higher up the Premier League next season.
