Everton star Jordan Pickford hailed by Clinton Morrison as Liverpool duo slammed

Clinton Morrison has piled praise on Jordan Pickford for his Everton performance v Liverpool while slamming Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

It will be a night to remember for Toffees fans as they secured their first Merseyside Derby win at Goodison since 2010.

There were many standout performances from the goalscoring Dominic Calvert-Lewin to the defensive solidity of James Tarkowski.

Reporting for BBC Sport, Morrison has shared his opinion on Pickford following his heroics in goal to shut the Reds out.

He said: “Jordan Pickford has made two brilliant saves, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz with great chances, but straight at Pickford – poor finishing.”

How did Jordan Pickford perform for Everton v Liverpool?

The England international was in top form as he needed to be to keep out stars like Mohamed Salah, Nunez and Diaz.

It wasn’t the kind of game to get the ball on the floor and play, he saw Calvert-Lewin and did his best to pick him out.

This saw him clock up just 10 accurate passes and 29 per cent accuracy with long balls, according to FotMob. Although this may seem negative, it was part of the game plan which worked a treat.

Jordan Pickford and his Everton defence were all at sea as Chelsea scored six unanswered goals on Monday night.

Even the quality of Virgil Van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate could not deal with the physicality of the Everton striker.

Throughout the 90 minutes, Pickford made seven saves which kept Liverpool at bay. On top of this, he registered 13 recoveries and two high claims which took the pressure off his side.

It was a result to remember for the Toffees after 14 years without this feeling. Pickford was a large reason behind the success at Goodison Park.
