Sean Dyche shares if Everton want to sign Jack Harrison from Leeds United permanently

Sean Dyche has revealed that Everton are already planning for the summer transfer window, but wouldn’t be drawn on the future of Jack Harrison.

The winger joined the Toffees on a season-long loan from Leeds United in the summer and has been a regular for the club as they look to avoid relegation, with a win over Liverpool helping them move eight points clear of the drop zone with four games remaining.

The 27-year-old has enjoyed some good form recently and during his pre-match press conference (25 April) Dyche was asked if he plans to sign the Leeds man permanently, but the manager admitted that while plans are underway for the summer they won’t discuss that until the season ends.

“We’ll have to worry about that when we get to the summer,” he said. “Obviously we’re still in that flux position of not knowing quite where it is.

“We’re still planning as many things as we can. Myself and Kev [Thelwell], the scouts and the staff are looking at options of how we could mould things here first and also what’s outside of here.

“But it is the shifting sands at the moment.”

Everton must be sensible with the summer transfer budget

The club needed to spend big last summer to bring in Beto as cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but outside of that they were very smart with their business by securing some loan deals.

Harrison was a shrewd signing, coming in with plenty of Premier League experience and offering quality in a position where the team was lacking. But Leeds know what they have and they will likely ask for a decent chunk of change to let him leave permanently.

The attacker signed a new contract before leaving Elland Road which ties him to the Yorkshire club until 2028, meaning they have plenty of leverage in any negotiations too.

Jack Harrison, Everton
Jack Harrison could make a return to Everton.

The Toffees have already been hit with deductions totalling eight points this season due to their financial issues, and they simply cannot afford to overspend again without facing relegation battles again.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana are expected to be sold which will undoubtedly boost the budget somewhat, but they will need to be replaced too. If Harrison is too expensive, they’ll need to move on.
