Darren Bent gushes over Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Everton, Michael Jordan comparison made

Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein have lauded Dominic Calvert-Lewin after the Everton forward’s goal against Liverpool on Wednesday (24 April).

The 27-year-old netted his third goal in four matches as the Toffees claimed an incredible 2-0 win over their Merseyside rivals – their first at Goodison Park in 14 years.

Securing three points against Jurgen Klopp’s side all but secured Everton’s safety in the Premier League, having moved eight points clear of Luton Town in the dropzone.

Calvert-Lewin was even compared to NBA legend Michael Jordan for one moment against the Reds.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (25 April, 4:12pm), Bent said: “Calvert-Lewin’s header… When he runs and jumps like that, no one can live with him.

“He had another in the first half, and he should head it down – the keeper saves it,” to which Goldstein asked, “He’s like Michael Jordan, isn’t he?”

Nobody will deny that it has been an incredibly difficult campaign for Calvert-Lewin, though he has proven himself to be a crucial part of the squad in recent matches.

Despite being plagued by injuries, the 27-year-old has stepped up to the plate, scoring against Newcastle United, Burnley and Liverpool over his past four appearances.

Before this run of matches, he had only registered three Premier League goals this season, having last scored in a 1-0 win over West Ham United in October.

The fear of relegation has been at a constant high at Goodison Park this season, especially with the points deductions being dealt by the Premier League, but the victory will relax those worries hugely.

Eight points above the dropzone and seven points above Nottingham Forest, it is extremely difficult to see a scenario in which the Toffees fail to secure their safety in the division, especially considering their remaining matches.

Sean Dyche’s team will be hoping to end the campaign on a high, with Brentford, Luton and Sheffield United still left to play, and a visit to the Emirates Stadium on the final day of the season.
