Emmanuel Petit drops ‘not convinced’ verdict on Everton ace Jordan Pickford ahead of EURO 2024

Emmanuel Petit has expressed concerns over Everton ace Jordan Pickford being England’s number one goalkeeping choice ahead of EURO 2024.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper has been an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s plans, racking up 60 international caps since his initial call-up to the Three Lions nine years ago.

Despite his number-one status with England, Petit – a World Cup winner with France – is unsure that Pickford should start at this summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (25 April, 5:45pm), he said: “I’m not convinced by Pickford.

“I think sometimes he can make great saves. He can be incredible on his line, but I think he’s average off his line. He can make mistakes in terms of concentration. I really like Ramsdale but he’s not playing anymore.”

Does Jordan Pickford deserve more respect at Everton?

Considering Petit’s option to replace Pickford is Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who has been replaced by David Raya this season, it is a confusing suggestion from the French legend.

The England shot-stopper has kept 11 clean sheets in the Premier League, with Raya the only other goalkeeper to keep the ball out the back of the net on more occasions this season.

Having been named Man of the Match against Liverpool on Wednesday (24 April), as per FotMob, Pickford was key yet again as the Toffees moved another step closer to Premier League survival.

With only Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City conceding fewer goals this season, Pickford can certainly be thanked for many of the points earned by Sean Dyche’s side and deserves far more respect.

Jordan Pickford has been a consistent presence for both Everton and England for years

Of course, a former player like Petit is allowed his opinion. However, it seems like a very outlandish call after the season the Everton man has had in between the sticks.

Pickford is one of the most predictable player to start as England prepare to face Serbia on Sunday 16 June, continuing to never let his country down on the international stage.

In other Everton news, a senior player may never start for the club again after the Chelsea loss and is now very likely to leave in June.
