Stan Collymore shot down over Everton v Brentford prediction on talkSPORT

Stan Collymore predicted Everton will come out on top in their meeting with Brentford this weekend, but two talkSPORT presenters disagreed.

Everton head into the game on the back of a memorable victory over Liverpool, which followed on from a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

In his weekly prediction segment for the radio station on Friday [26 April], Collymore said he expects the Toffees to now make certain of safety.

“I think Everton will win this one 2-1,” he said. “Everton channelled their inner dogs of war in the Merseyside derby.

“Brentford have won their last couple away, but I’ll go with a solid Everton win, a fourth on the spin [at home] as they cruise towards safety.”

However, Andy Jacobs and Paul Hawksbee argued Everton’s midweek exertions would work against them, with neither backing a home win.

Everton and Brentford both hitting form in Premier League

The Toffees did indeed put a lot of effort into the midweek win over Liverpool, as they did the contentious victory over Forest a few days earlier.

There is always a risk of a team taking their foot off the gas when they appear to have reached their objective, which in Everton’s case is safety.

However, Sean Dyche will not allow his players to switch off until survival is mathematically secured, regardless of the points deduction appeal.

Brentford have themselves been in good form, having also won back-to-back matches and gone five games unbeaten since the end of March.

This match will unlikely be anywhere near the top of the running order on Match of the Day, but all that matters is Everton pick up a point or more.

What is certain is that, for the first time in a long time, it will be nice going into a game with a little less pressure on.
