Jamie Redknapp blasts Abdoulaye Doucoure after Everton v Brentford footage
Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure was slammed by Jamie Redknapp on Sky Sports, after missing a close-range chance in the 1-0 win against Brentford on 27 April.
Goodison Park witnessed a goalless first half despite Everton having several chances to open the scoring, before Idrissa Gana Gueye fired home the winner.
Speaking live on Sky Sports as the footage was shared on X, Redknapp was not impressed with what he saw from Doucoure at a key moment.
He said: “Doucoure just slashes it with his left foot, his balance is wrong. All the fundamentals that you need to get a good, clean strike on it, he doesn’t quite get right.”
Everton secure Premier League safety at Goodison Park
Everton and Brentford were both given significant boosts before kick-off, with results in the 3pm kick-offs seeing both Sheffield United and Luton lose, as well as a 1-1 draw for Burnley.
The bottom three all failing to win rubber-stamps Brentford’s Premier League status for next season, and also meant Everton came into the game needing just one more victory to confirm their safety.
That led to a cagey affair in which both sides somewhat cancelled each other out at first, with neither able to create an out-and-out chance, other than the flick from Chermiti which released Doucoure in the box.
It was Everton who got the last laugh though as they signed off on a perfect week at Goodison Park, winning three games, all with clean sheets.
After the thumping at Chelsea, things were looking bleak, but Sean Dyche has more than proven his worth when it matters the most.
