Alan Shearer gushes over ‘unbelievable’ Sean Dyche achievement after Everton v Brentford
Alan Shearer has gushed over Everton boss Sean Dyche after his side secured their Premier League survival with a 1-0 win against Brentford at Goodison Park.
The legendary striker insisted the boss has done an “unbelievable” job keeping them up despite uncertainty surrounding points deductions, a new stadium build and an ongoing takeover.
Shearer was also stunned by Everton’s defensive record, with the second-most clean sheets in the league behind title-chasing Arsenal as he heaped praise on Dyche.
Speaking live on BBC Match Of The Day [27 April], Shearer gushed: “I think with all the uncertainty and with what’s gone on; new stadium, new ownership and points deductions, I think the way Sean Dyche has managed that situation has been incredible.
“He’s doing an unbelievable job. They’ve only scored 37 goals but defensively they are very, very tough and mean and don’t give much away. Most clean sheets other than Arsenal. What a job Dyche has done, incredible.”
Alan Shearer hails “unbelievable” Sean Dyche after Everton win
Shearer’s praise of Dyche comes after Everton’s Premier League survival was confirmed, but reflects the views of most both in and outside of Goodison Park for the majority of the season that he remains the best man to take the club forward.
Before the recent run of form which has seen the Toffees win three games in a row against Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Brentford, Dyche had come under sack pressure after a run of poor form and a long run without a win.
However, the boss remained calm and stuck to his methods throughout the turbulent period, backing his players and confident in the knowledge that his style would see them safe for another Premier League season – and he has been proved right.

This is the third year in a row that Dyche has guided his team away from the threat of relegation despite unprecedented circumstances off the pitch with points deductions and an unpredictable takeover bid – he deserves to be given his flowers.
