Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite tipped for international honour as new ‘worry’ emerges
Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite has been tipped to receive an England call-up for the European Championships by Jamie Redknapp after his performance against Brentford.
The former Liverpool midfielder has a feeling that Branthwaite will be in Gareth Southgate’s England side “at some point”, but his lack of caps may prove to be an issue.
Redknapp admitted he is worried that, as Branthwaite didn’t feature in friendlies against Brazil or Belgium despite being in the squad, he may be overlooked.
Speaking live on Sky Sports as shared via X [27 April] Redknapp shared: “I’ve just got the feeling, sometimes with young players maybe it’s more strikers in World Cups and Euros that have made a difference, but I think we will see him in the team at some point.
“My only worry was that he didn’t play in the games against Belgium and Brazil. It’s not going to be easy, but I do think Jarrad, because of how he’s played, what obviously goes against him is having zero caps.
“But if you can play, he’s confident and he’s quick, there’s no reason why he can’t do it.”
Jarrad Branthwaite earns England call with Everton performances
Branthwaite’s performances so far this season have earned him high praise from many within the game as well as his first England call-up and links with a move to the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The 1-0 victory against Brentford at Goodison Park means the Toffees have now recorded three consecutive clean sheets, thanks in large part to Branthwaite’s contributions alongside James Tarkowski and Jordan Pickford.
Another issue going against Branthwaite would be those above him in the pecking order as far as Southgate is concerned. Harry Maguire, John Stones, Marc Guehi, Lewis Dunk, Ezri Konsa and Eric Dier have all been handed caps in recent international breaks.
While the competition remains on to prove to the boss he deserves to be in the squad for the Euros, there is not much more Branthwaite can do, but he has been continually overlooked in terms of international caps.
In other Everton news, another star could exit Goodison Park this summer amid transfer interest.
