Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker rave over ‘remarkable’ Sean Dyche achievement at Everton
Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have both lauded Sean Dyche for the “remarkable” job he has done at Goodison Park after Everton secured Premier League safety.
A single Idrissa Gana Gueye goal was enough to claim an all-important three points against Brentford on Saturday (27 April), marking the Toffees’ mathematical safety in the top division with three games remaining.
Everton were battling relegation for a third successive season, with their current campaign hampered by takeover uncertainty, points deductions and key injuries.
Speaking via The Rest is Football podcast on Monday (29 April), Lineker said: “Just a word or two on Everton – what a week they’ve had, what an April they’ve had.
“They’re definitely safe now despite losing lots of points this season. Sean Dyche, whether you love his football or you don’t, he has done an amazing job.”
In total agreement, Shearer added: “He’s managed that situation amazingly. You can imagine what it would have been like when they lost the points, what the dressing room would have been like, the fans were angry and they had that uplift in form.
“The job that he’s done is remarkable. Remarkable job. He’s handled it superbly well, he’s always been balanced whether they won or lost games, staying very calm and never panicked.
“Under really difficult circumstances, he’s done a magnificent job.”
Sean Dyche praised for Everton job as Premier League safety secured
In the face of adversity, Dyche took the whole weight of Goodison Park on his shoulders, leading the club to Premier League safety against all the odds.
Without a total of eight points being deducted due to Profit and Sustainability breaches, the Toffees would currently be sitting in 13th place, four points off the top half of the table.
While Goodison Park is still being overshadowed by the uncertainty over the club’s potential takeover, with 777 Partners continuing to worry fans, the on-pitch displays recently have removed one negative from the club.
Despite claiming a vital 1-0 win over Burnley at the start of April, fears started to set in after a 6-0 hammering at the hands of Chelsea.

However, as they did in December after receiving an initial 10-point deduction, the players galvanised themselves to go on a run of three straight wins.
This run of matches included brilliant victories against Nottingham Forest, their Merseyside rivals Liverpool, and Brentford, while keeping clean sheets in all matches.
In other Everton news, an “appalling” behind-the-scenes development has emerged on Farhad Moshiri with the 777 Partners takeover in trouble.
