Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko injury update emerges as MRI results return

Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko risks being ruled out of the season as MRI test results have returned, according to Sport.

The Ukrainian media outlet reported on 29 April that after looking at the results, the Toffees doctors stated that he would probably have to undergo surgery.

While that could lead to him missing EURO 2024, specialists suggest that a treatment could be done which will see him return in no longer than six weeks.

If he’s not back this season, he will join Nathan Patterson and possibly Dele Alli on the list of players out until the next campaign.

Everton defender Vitaly Mykolenko stuck in injury dilemma

This situation presents a catch-22 for Mykolenko, as it involves a difficult decision that could impact both his club and international career.

On one hand, undergoing surgery could potentially ensure a more complete recovery and protect his long-term career prospects.

However, this option might force him to miss EURO 2024, a significant opportunity to represent his country on the international stage.

On the other hand, opting for a quicker treatment plan could allow the 24-year-old to return to action within six weeks, potentially in time for EURO 2024.

Yet, rushing his recovery could risk further complications or long-term damage, which would not only jeopardise his participation in the tournament but also his future career at Everton.

The Toffees, having already secured their Premier League status, may not be inclined to rush Mykolenko back into action, prioritising his long-term health and fitness over short-term gains.
