Everton must act quickly to secure Sammie Szmodics signing as transfer update emerges
Everton will be keen add more goals to their attack this summer, and Blackburn Rovers’ Sammie Szmodics is a player who has been netting them in the Championship for fun this season.
Despite securing Premier League safety with three matches remaining, with a narrow 1-0 win over Brentford on Saturday 27 April, Sean Dyche will still be worried about where his goals have come from this campaign.
With just 37 goals scored in 35 Premier League matches, only Sheffield United have netted fewer times in the top tier of English football, which needs to be addressed in the transfer market this summer.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Dominic Calvert-Lewin share the club’s top goalscorer tag this season with six goals each, though the former has not scored since December.
With that in mind, the Toffees have already begun searching for an alternative attacker who can promise goals in the final third and add a dynamic member to Dyche’s squad.
According to FootballTransfers [1 May], while Everton are focused on finding free transfers and loan players for next season, any available funds could be spent on Szmodics.
The attacker has scored 25 Championship goals in 42 matches this season, seeing him rack up 31 goals in all competitions, just six short of the Toffees’ record in the Premier League.
Could Sammie Szmodics leave Blackburn Rovers for Everton this summer?
While Szmodics is a well-established member of the Rovers squad and an extremely integral one at that, the Championship side still need to wait until the final day of the season to learn their fate.
Just three points above 22nd-place Birmingham City, Szmodics huge number of goals has not been enough to secure Blackburn’s safety in the division, which could mean he might be plying his trade in League One next season.

Having proven himself in the Championship this season, and earning his Republic of Ireland debut because of his form, the goal-hungry attacker is unlikely to settle for anything less than the top half of the Championship.
If Everton were to come knocking at Ewood Park this summer, it is difficult to see Szmodics turning down a move to Goodison Park, though other teams will surely be interested too.
