Everton want to sign Blackburn Rovers star Sammie Szmodics in double Championship raid
Everton want to sign Championship duo Sammie Szmodics and Jacob Greaves this summer after making them their “major” transfer targets, according to FootballTransfers.
Writing on their website (1 May), the news outlet report that the Toffees have identified the Championship top scorer as a key target for their limited budget, while Greaves is someone they see as a tailor-made replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite.
Szmodics has hit 25 goals for Blackburn Rovers this season, five more than anyone else in the division, and is a player the club are willing to spend money on, while Greaves is expected to cost around £15m amid competition from West Ham for his signature.
Everton must be smart with money this summer
The financial situation of the club has to be taken very seriously, because Everton are almost £1bn in debt currently and yet are somehow still in the Premier League.
Sean Dyche has worked wonders with the squad he has, and it’s easy to forget that without the eight points being deducted from their total they would be comfortably in mid-table.
But the squad will need to be bolstered in the summer without going overboard, and looking at some of the better players in the Championship could be a very shrewd way of strengthening the squad while not spending too much money.

Szmodics is an attacking midfielder by trade but has a phenomenal eye for goal which could help take the pressure off the strikers at the club, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s seven goals having him as top scorer this season.
At 28-years-old he’s unlikely to be too expensive but he can certainly bring quality to the squad, while Greaves has proven he is ready to step up to the top flight too.
In other Everton news, the club want to sign a young attacker who has been compared to a Champions League winner after his price tag emerged.
