Everton at risk of financial oblivion as 777 Partners takeover updates emerge
Farhad Moshiri has been slammed for the ongoing mess at Everton as the club is at risk of “financial oblivion” given the extent of their debts, according to Chris McKenna.
The Mirror journalist shared that the people behind the scenes managing the accounts at Goodison Park deserve just as much credit as Sean Dyche for keeping the club afloat in recent weeks.
It was also said that, despite reports elsewhere, the club have not sought advice on insolvency despite the concerns emerging around 777 Parners’ takeover bid.
“Sean Dyche may have steered the club to Premier League safety with a win over Brentford at the weekend,” McKenna wrote for the Mirror [2 May], “But those working off the pitch doing the maths on their accounts are stopping the club from really going down into financial oblivion.
“The club are not getting advice on insolvency but they have spoken to an outside company to discuss how to restructure some debts to make it more manageable.
“It does not bode well that a club of such stature is relying on loans to get by. It’s a mess which soon-to-be former owner Farhad Moshiri has helped orchestrate since his takeover of the club in 2016. The Blues are currently in debt over £330m, according to their latest accounts, revealed last month.
“There are fears that if the Premier League don’t approve 777, then what will happen and how will the money be repaid? Moshiri is still intent on selling the group led by Josh Wander and Steve Pasko.”
Everton takeover concerns continue amid 777 Partners verdict
The latest concern surrounding the takeover at Everton came as 777 were late making a payment, forcing the club to use their own money to meet payroll obligations, something which could have led to “severe consequences”, as McKenna mooted.
Failure to make payments on time is nothing new as far as 777 Partners are concerned. Multiple incidents in the past few months have seen them fail to meet payment obligations to MSP Capital and the British Basketball League despite promises made.
This is the most recent in a long line of concerns and uncertainty surrounding the takeover, with the group so far unable to prove to the Premier League that they are fit and proper owners for Everton – something which may have been clear for a while.

However, with Moshiri still insisting that they are the right group to take over, he has previously been urged to step in and intervene. The longer the issues continue to be drawn out with no solution, the more the club is at risk.
