Fabrizio Romano shares Chelsea transfer update on Everton keeper Jordan Pickford

Fabrizio Romano has shared an update on Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford amid reported interest from fellow Premier League side Chelsea.

The Boot Room reported on Wednesday (1 May) that Pickford has considered leaving Goodison Park in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea are said to be keeping an eye on the situation as they potentially look to bring in another new goalkeeper ahead of next season.

Commenting on the speculation via his Daily Briefing page [2 May], Romano said: “I’m aware there have been reports of interest in signing Jordan Pickford this summer.

“My understanding is that Pickford’s situation could be one to watch in general, but it depends on Everton.

“At the moment I’m not aware of contacts with Chelsea but let’s see what they decide to do on the goalkeeper position in general; also Kepa will return, so there are already three important goalkeepers at the club and this will be a topic before bringing in a new one.”

Is Jordan Pickford staying at Everton?

Everton will not want to lose Pickford at any cost, and their Premier League safety being secured should hopefully help in that regard.

However, the whole takeover situation may well have a major say in who leaves and who stays when the summer transfer window opens.

And if Everton need to bring in big cash at short notice, unfortunately it looks as though Pickford could be one of those who is off.

Chelsea have not had great luck with goalkeepers in recent times, but in Pickford they have a stopper guaranteed to improve their side.

Pickford loves Everton and only signed a new deal last year that keeps him under contract at Goodison Park until 2027.

The England number one wanting to leave does not seem likely, and even if he does so it will still take a massive fee for Everton to cash in.

This is one to watch, but hopefully the speculation comes to little by the time the window opens.
