Tottenham to sell £20m-rated player to finance move for Everton gem Amadou Onana

Tottenham are prepared to sanction the sale of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in order to fund a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer, according to Caught Offside.

The online source reported [2 May] that the 22-year-old is firmly on the radar at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the club willing to sell Hojbjerg for £20million to help afford the transfer.

The Danish midfielder is under contract until the summer of 2025, though he has been heavily criticised for his performances and has made just seven Premier League starts this season.

“CaughtOffside understands Spurs will be ready to let Hojbjerg go for around £20m, so that could go a long way to helping fund a move for Onana, who would surely be an upgrade for Ange Postecoglou’s midfield,” Mark Brus wrote.

Could Amadou Onana leave Everton this summer?

The Toffees could certainly be under pressure to sell some of their stars at Goodison Park, especially if the club are to be at risk of any further financial punishments.

Of course, the continued uncertainty over 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton could be a major issue heading into the summer, as Sean Dyche has even admitted himself.

Despite this, the club will be keen to hold onto the midfielder, who has proven to be an exciting prospect since arriving at Goodison Park in the summer of 2022.

While the Belgian has only made 69 appearances, he certainly has a lot more developing to do and could prove to be a vital asset for the Toffees in future seasons.

Avoiding relegation will have definitely helped with reducing the pressure to sell their most expensive players, with shot-stopper Jordan Pickford and Jarrad Branthwaite also being linked with moves away.

The midfield has been one of Dyche’s biggest struggles throughout the season, with many injuries hitting the Everton squad, which makes Onana’s stay at Goodison Park all the more important.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a young attacker who has been compared to a Champions League winner after his price tag emerged.
