Werder Bremen director speaks out as Justin Njinmah linked with Everton transfer

Werder Bremen managing director Clemens Fritz has confirmed the club are not planning to sell Justin Njinmah this summer despite links with a transfer to Everton.

It was explained that the forward remains under contract with the German club and transfer interest is normal given the level of his performances this season.

Links to the striker have surfaced as many clubs are following his progress, including the likes of Wolves and Villarreal who will rival the Toffees for his signature.

Speaking to the press as relayed by Fussball Transfers [2 May], Fritz shared: “It is clear to us that we will plan normally with Justin next season. Basically, he still has a contract. Justin has had a good season so far.

“It’s normal that one or another club is interested.”

Will Everton sign Justin Njinmah from Werder Bremen?

Now aged 23, Njinmah is playing his first full season in the Bundesliga, presenting himself as somewhat of a late bloomer at the top level, with his previous experience coming for Borussia Dortmund’s B-team in the third division of German football.

The emergence of Youssef Chermiti in recent games suggests Everton already have one raw striker they will look to develop over the coming seasons, suggesting that there is little space for Njinmah to feature in Sean Dyche’s squad.

Of his 24 appearances this season, Njinmah has started just ten and come off the bench in 14, scoring six times and providing two assists as he continues to develop his game at the top level, but that has been enough to attract interest.

Everton boss Sean Dyche
Sean Dyche’s Everton side have faced plenty of challenges both on and off the pitch this season.

Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell recently revealed plans to buy younger players from across Europe before developing them at Goodison Park and eventually selling them for a profit, and this deal may be another example of that plan.
