Frontrunners emerge in Everton and Sunderland race for West Ham striker Divin Mubama

Sunderland have emerged as frontrunners ahead of Everton and West Brom for West Ham striker Divin Mubama, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The media outlet added context on 3 May to the Athletic report from the same day addressing the future of the 19-year-old.

The English striker has received limited game time this season under David Moyes and has thus opted against signing an extension at the London Stadium.

Everton signing West Ham striker Divin Mubama was a non starter

Everton’s pursuit of Mubama appeared to be a non-starter due to their already crowded attacking options.

The club have Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Beto, Youssef Chermiti and Lewis Dobbin in their ranks, which means Mubama would likely face similar game-time issues at Goodison Park as he did at West Ham.

In fact, Everton’s attack seems to have more depth than West Ham’s, which would make it even more challenging for Mubama to break into the first team.

Given the current situation, it would be more beneficial for Mubama to consider Sunderland, who have emerged as frontrunners for his signature.

At Sunderland, the teenager would have a better chance of securing regular playing time, which is crucial for his development at this stage of his career.

Furthermore, the step down to the Championship could provide Mubama with the opportunity to gain valuable experience and potentially return to the Premier League in the future.
