Gary Neville reacts to ‘Scary’ Everton situation live on Sky Sports as administration mooted

Gary Neville believes the Premier League must do more to help clubs like Everton after administration was mooted this week.

The Toffees secured their top-flight safety with three wins in a week over Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Brentford, and followed that up with a 1-1 draw with Luton on Friday night (3 May) at Kenilworth Road.

And speaking after the game live on Sky Sports (3 May), Neville was asked about the financial worries heading into the end of the season after Jamie Carragher mentioned that administration was potentially looming, and claimed the club need to find a solution “pretty quickly”.

“Look, the Premier League is beautiful. It’s shiny, it’s the best league in the world to watch,” he said. “But there are a lot of governance issues.

“A lot of these types of issues which exist in football, this pressure, this desperation, that goes on and on and on, and the cycle just has to stop. We need control in the game, just generally.

“I think Everton fans are the ones who are most vulnerable at this moment in time because as Jamie has just said, it looks like at this moment in time they’re just trying to get to the end of the season so they don’t go into administration while the football is still being played.

“That’s obviously something that they’re trying to navigate, but they’ve got to get out of this situation pretty quickly, and they need a long-term sustainable solution.

“Where is that coming from for Everton? That’s the scary thing, and a lot of clubs are in the same position.”

Everton must move on from 777 Partners

It’s been over eight months since 777 Partners and Farhad Moshiri agreed a deal for the latter’s 94% stake in the club, and yet we’re no closer to finding out if they’ll become the owners of Everton.

The Premier League have been asking for proof of funds for a long time and the Miami-based investment firm hasn’t been able to provide it, while also dealing with several other financial issues elsewhere to add further doubt to the situation.

The scenario has caused more problems at the club than necessary, and it’s time for the Premier League to make the decision to bring an end to the process.

Clearly 777 Partners aren’t fit and proper owners, even if they have reportedly passed the test, and the longer this goes on the more stress it puts on the future of the club with debt piling up.

Moshiri, 777 and the Premier League need to bring an end to this and find the club new owners who are ready to step in quickly because the current situation isn’t fair on the fans who are the lifeblood of the club.
