Jamie Carragher shares Everton administration ‘fear’ live on air amid 777 Partners development
Jamie Carragher has admitted there has been “fear” of administration at Everton as 777 Partners’ takeover continues to be delayed.
The Miami-based investment firm are still waiting for Premier League approval to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park and have been propping up the Toffees with monthly loans.
So far, 777 have supported Sean Dyche’s side with upwards of £200million and while the suggestion is administration has been avoided for this season at least, Carragher admits it has been spoken about on Merseyside.
Speaking on Sky Sports Premier League (3 May) he said: “The group 777 are propping the club basically, keeping them going. Popping in £15-£20million every month to pay the wages and pay the costs of the stadium.
“Everton fans don’t want them to take over the club but you have to think where would Everton be now without them? They’ve put £200million into the club and they don’t even own the club. If the Premier League don’t pass them or if Moshiri stays, they need paying back.
“I think in the first few weeks once you get the football out of the way, you do fear for Everton a little bit because it doesn’t look too rosy. There’s actually talk, I wouldn’t say it was imminent, of administration this week or Everton were sort of taking advice on that situation if it came to it.
“I think the Premier League are actually in a really difficult position because it’s obvious that it shouldn’t take eight months to pass new owners so they obviously don’t think that they are fit and proper owners for whatever reason.
“But they’re also thinking if they tell this group 777 no, who is actually going to be funding Everton right now?
“They’ve actually given them the ultimatum to pay off the funds, pay off the debt, finish the stadium and there’s another two or three things they asked of them and they couldn’t do it, they can’t provide it. Something needs to happen and happen very quickly.”
Will 777 Partners complete their takeover of Everton at Goodison Park?
As Carragher suggested, no takeover should take upwards of eight months to gain approval from the Premier League. The constant delays at Goodison Park show that 777 do not have the ability to effectively fund the Toffees currently.
While their investment through loans has been crucial in keeping Dyche’s side afloat over the last few months, their support will mean very little should the Premier League kick their takeover to the curb.

But fans also don’t want to see the Miami-based company in charge because of how they have run their other businesses around the world. Something simply must change for the sake of Everton’s long-term financial future.
Hopefully, Moshiri will see the light and begin talks with alternative investors as it is clear for everybody to see that 777 are not cut out to have a controlling stake at Goodison Park.
