Dharmesh Sheth: ‘Huge’ Everton transfer development on the cards before 30 June
Everton are a “huge” club to watch out for ahead of 30 June due to profit and sustainability rules, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports News journalist reported via the Transfer Talk podcast on 7 May that Premier League clubs will aim to sell players before the start of July due to ensure they don’t fall foul of Financial Fair Play rules in the 2023/24 season.
It is understood that the Toffees have sellable assets in players like Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and Amadou Onana. However, Sheth isn’t 100 per cent sure that the Blues will be so ready to get rid of their star men.
“Everton don’t want to sell [Branthwaite] – of course they don’t. But we know the financial predicament that Everton find themselves in,” said Sheth on Tuesday’s episode of the Transfer Talk podcast (7 May, via Spotify).
“You’re looking at their squad and looking at who are the most saleable assets. You look at players like Jordan Pickford, Jarrad Branthwaite and Onana. Those three look like the players they could get the most amount of money for – but for what cost?
“We know what’s happened with the breaches of profit and sustainability rules, they’ve been docked eight points in total now because of them. They don’t want to be in that situation again.
“We’re talking about 30 June with Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea. Everton are going to be a huge club to keep an eye on because they don’t want to be anywhere near breaching these rules again because they can’t afford to be docked points. But, on the flip side, if they have to sell and it’s players like Branthwaite, Pickford or Onana, it’s going to be a big blow to their squad and – depending on how much money they get for them – how much money is available to Sean Dyche to spend once that money is in.”
Will Everton sell Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer transfer window?
Branthwaite has been excellent for Everton this season.
After excelling on loan at PSV last term, he’s returned to Merseyside and pretty much proven that he was ready for Premier League football long before his stint in the Eredivisie.
The 21-year-old has won a call-up to the England senior team and stands a shot at making Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024 after playing 39 times in all competitions for the Toffees, scoring three goals in the process.
It’s not Braithwaite’s goalscoring ability which has him on the verge of Southgate’s squad for Germany though. It’s the fact that at the age of just 21, he’s showing himself to be one of the most trustworthy centre-backs in the whole of English football.

It’s a major worry for Evertonians that Branthwaite will leave this summer because – let’s face it – he’s too good to play for a team that’s constantly in relegation trouble.
Everton fans won’t like it but Jeff Stelling – speaking on talkSPORT on talkSPORT on 25 March, 09:28am – has already predicted Branthwaite to join Manchester United for £45million this summer.
It wouldn’t be a shock but you’d hope the Blues get more than that for their star man.
