Everton, 777 Partners takeover latest laid bare by finance expert Stefan Borson

Stefan Borson has shared his concerns amid the latest updates surrounding 777 Partners’ takeover bid at Everton as talks continue to stall.

According to The Times journalist Paul Joyce [8 May], majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri has considered backing out of the deal with doubts arising over how the Miami-based group will fund the club in the long term.

Despite this, the two parties met in London on Tuesday (7 May) to discuss crunch talks, seeking clarity and a resolution to complete the takeover before the Toffees’ final home game of the season against Sheffield United on Saturday 11 May [Alan Myers].

Speaking via talkSPORT on Wednesday (8 May), the finance expert said: “It’s very hard to see how 777 can buy Everton after we’ve seen over the past few days.

“There is a culmination of doubts and litigation that has piled up against 777 to the point in which it does not look likely they have the funding to purchase Everton. We have to question in any event what their endgame is in respect to the ownership of Everton even if they were to be successful.

“The £200million from 777 they’ve lent to Everton has probably kept the club alive. In the absence of another bidder, 777, wherever they have got the money from, have done Everton a great service. £200m is a lot of money.”

What emerged as an exciting adventure with a new owner back in September has turned into a nightmare for passionate Evertonians, who are still left in the dark over the future of their club.

Luckily for Moshiri, and no thanks to the current majority shareholder, Sean Dyche and his players have secured Premier League safety, saving the Toffees from the drama of dropping into the Championship.

There have been countless worries mooted during the takeover bid by 777 Partners, with whole-fire sales, further points deductions and administration all suggested as potential outcomes to the ordeal.

Fans at Goodison Park want to know that they have a club to watch next season, though Moshiri has shown no energy or determination to get the deal done, seeing him slated regularly.

While 777 Partners have already handed the Toffees a considerable monetary boost, the constant rumours surrounding the group are extremely concerning and could see Moshiri go elsewhere for the takeover.
