Kaveh Solhekol shares Crystal Palace reason behind Everton dropping points deduction appeal

Everton must prioritise their chaotic ongoing saga with 777 Partners’ proposed takeover and avoiding administration over appealing a two-point deduction, says Kaveh Solhekol.

Solhekol reported on Sky Sports [10 May, 13:03] that Everton have withdrawn their appeal against a two-point deduction for breaching Profitability & Sustainability Rules.

He went on to explain that the reason behind this withdrawal is that Everton’s danger of relegation from the Premier League is over, unless the club are plunged into administration within the next week.

Beyond that, there is also little chance of catching Crystal Palace directly above them, meaning there is no real point of pursuing the appeal being overturned.

“They’re not in danger of relegation. They appealed a month ago, and since then they have won three games and drawn another,” Solhekol said.

“They’ve got an extra 10 points to lift themselves away from the relegation zone. They’re nine clear with two games to go. They are in 16th place, while 15th place Crystal Palace are six points ahead of them.

“Every place in the Premier League table is worth millions of pounds. Even if they won this appeal and got the two points back, it wouldn’t lift them above Crystal Palace.

“There are more important things to worry about at the moment. We know what’s going on with the proposed takeover that’s been dragging on for so long now. This [appeal] is now an unwanted distraction.

“Everton have admitted they’ve broken the rules – there’s no point appealing unless you have real grounds to.”

Everton withdraw deduction appeal

Everton may have felt they had a fair amount of evidence to overturn the two points snipped off their total for breaking rules, but simply not enough – and now there are bigger fish to fry.

The talk of administration has intensified, and the bankrolling of Moshiri’s club from 777 Partners’ loans will evaporate should the Premier League win the battle against approving them.

The decision to withdraw the appeal would have been discussed over the course of the week since Everton’s latest position in the table became clear – namely that they are almost definitely going to finish no higher than 15th.

The club are merely trying to minimise the disarray at Goodison Park, almost to the point where the team’s contest against relegated Sheffield United this weekend takes a backseat.

The mess off the field shows no sign of slowing down in the coming days.
