Leon Osman reacts to nasty Andre Gomes incident in Everton v Sheffield United

Leon Osman believes that it may be the last time fans see Andre Gomes in an Everton shirt after his injury v Sheffield United.

The Toffees secured a narrow 1-0 victory against the Blades at Goodison Park on 11 May, but the Portuguese midfielder could not see out the game.

Sean Dyche brought on the 30-year-old in the 69th minute, but he then had to be taken off in the 90th minute due to an injury.

Speaking on Premier League Productions’ world feed, Osman said (11 May, 16:54): “Looks a nasty head injury. If that’s his last moment in an Everton shirt, that’s a shame.”

Throughout the season, Gomes has faced a series of injury setbacks, which have significantly limited his playing time and contributions to the team.

The Portuguese midfielder has only started one Premier League game and has been dealing with a nagging calf injury, which even forced him to pull up proactively in training after feeling discomfort.

Gomes’ potential departure from the Toffees would mark the end of a challenging chapter in his career.

Having joined the club in 2018, he initially showed great promise, with his technical ability and creativity in midfield.

However, recurring injuries have hampered his progress and prevented him from consistently performing at his best.

As his contract is set to expire, it remains uncertain whether he will be offered a new deal, especially given his high wages and the club’s need to balance the books.

If this does turn out to be his last appearance for the Toffees, it would be a disappointing end to his time at the club.
