Abdoulaye Doucoure shares new Everton contract update after Goodison Park win v Sheffield United

Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has revealed that the Toffees have an option to extend his stay at Goodison Park for another season.

The Mali international has been a regular under Sean Dyche this season when fit but was linked with a January transfer away from Merseyside amid some reported interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

For whatever reason, no such move materialised, much to the relief of most Toffees supporters and while the 31-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of next season he has now admitted he could yet extend his stay.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (12 May) he said: “From my point of view, I’m very happy. The club has an option to extend my contract next season, so I’m very calm.

“I signed a new deal (last summer) so I think my situation is not the priority now. I’m very secure here.”

Will Abdoulaye Doucoure leave Everton in the summer transfer window?

Everton supporters haven’t had loads to celebrate in recent years, with off-the-field issues and relegation battles ensuring it has been one of the most difficult periods in the Blues’ entire history.

But throughout that period, Doucoure has given his all every time he has stepped on the pitch in a Toffees shirt and played a vital role in keeping the Blues in the Premier League. Without him, Dyche’s side would be in the Championship.

It is only natural that those displays would have caught the eye of other teams around the world, but it seems as though Everton have managed to plan ahead and do all they can to keep the Mali international for as long as possible.

Hopefully, they will be able to ward off any interest that arises this summer and then activate this extension clause as soon as possible. But it would be a surprise to see that happen immediately as there are far bigger fish to fry at Goodison first.
