Everton contract development confirmed by Seamus Coleman as Goodison Park exits loom

Seamus Coleman is considering another new Everton contract extension with his current deal set to expire at the end of the season, he has confirmed.

The Toffees full-back admitted that the situation at Goodison Park has been “tough” in recent seasons, but that it is “hard to walk away from something you love” so he is pleased the club have offered him new terms.

Republic of Ireland international Coleman, 35, signed a 12-month extension a year ago while recovering from a serious injury and has had further knocks to deal with this season.

The captain told EvertonTV (13 May): “The club means everything to me. I suppose I live and breathe it like everyone else. It’s been a hell of a ride – the last two or three years – and it’s not a case that you just turn up for work, go home and forget about it.

“You live and breathe it, and it’s been tough. But I absolutely love this football club, I love this stadium. We’ve got another year here at Goodison, so I’m happy to have been offered something and I’ll have a think.

“This football club means everything to me and, as I said before when I signed my last contract, it is hard to walk away from something you love.”

Toffees captain offered new Everton deal under Sean Dyche

Kevin Thelwell has already admitted that sales will have to be made during the transfer window this summer, but it looks like Coleman probably won’t be departing.

Although the apparent end to the 777 Partners attempt to takeover the club from Farhad Moshiri looks to be heralding some long-awaited optimism around Goodison there are still plenty of financial pressures to overcome yet.

Coleman may not be the Premier League stand-out he was years ago but he is a valuable veteran presence and a fan-favourite, as well as a useful contributor on the pitch.

It isn’t certain that he will remain yet but if the club have offered him the chance to he certainly doesn’t sound like someone about to reject that.

Dyche appears to be after reinforcements at right-back in the transfer market, with multiple targets already reported.

Big-name sales will likely dictate whether he and Thelwell can spend a fee on a new man at the position or if a free transfer pick up will be necessary, but whoever else comes or goes it looks like the manager wants the club captain to extend his stay to a 16th season.

In other Everton news, 777 have pulled a “desperate measure” out in a “ludicrous” late takeover update.
