Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko long-term injury claim emerges

Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko faces potential long-term injury risks after behind-the-scenes discussions according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert reacted to a report from Ukrainian outlet Sport which moots disagreement with the club’s physios over the right treatment method.

There were talks about surgery being needed but that would result in him missing the EUROs and that’s not what he wanted.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and Sports Scientist, said about Mykolenko:

There certainly are risks involved in this approach which could be short and long-term ones.

The risks really depend on the full severity of the injury – even if he has a grade 3 ligament rupture, there are other factors as well which could indicate whether surgery is needed or not.

Typically, the player will have some say but it still comes down to the medical experts to make the final judgement on risk/reward and safety.

Vitalii Mykolenko did not need surgery but won’t return this season for Everton

The Toffees confirmed at the end of April that the 24-year-old will not be needing surgery.

However, there is a chance that he could’ve aggravated his ankle against Liverpool and now it’s being revealed that he faces a longer-term risk as well.
