Everton takeover update emerges with Middle Eastern interest clarified

The Esk has claimed that there do not appear to be any Middle Eastern groups showing an interest in buying Everton.

Ahead of what’s a critical week in the takeover with the 777 Partners now out of the running, there have been links to countries in the Middle East.

However, that does not seem to be the case, as things stand, with Farhad Moshiri looking to sell the club.

When asked if any Middle Eastern groups were expressing their interest to buy the Toffees, the Esk responded on Twitter: “Not to my knowledge.”

Everton dodge massive takeover bullet

The Toffees have dodged a bullet as Middle Eastern states have been known to engage in sportswashing, a practice in which countries with poor human rights records invest in sports to improve their international image.

This can lead to a situation where the country’s sports investments overshadow legitimate concerns about human rights abuses, corruption, and other issues.

Involement with such consortiums can also lead to a situation where the team becomes too dependent on foreign investment, which can be risky.

Had the Toffees been taken over by a Middle Eastern company it could’ve also lead to political complications.

Given the harrowing process with 777 Partners, the last thing anyone wants at the club is for something similar to happen again.

It remains to be seen how things transpire and hopefully, fans get clarity before the season ends.
