Jordan Pickford tipped to snub summer Arsenal switch amid new Everton transfer update

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford won’t want to leave Goodison Park to join Arsenal during the summer transfer window, according to David Seaman.

Reports have suggested that Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are considering a summer swoop for the England number one with the Toffees expected to sell some star players as a result of their financial woes [TEAMtalk, 9 May].

Although Seaman appreciates Sean Dyche could be forced to sell his stopper, he doesn’t think Pickford will be eager to replace Aaron Ramsdale as Arsenal’s reserve keeper behind David Raya.

Speaking on the Seaman Says podcast (13 May, 16:20) he said: “I can’t see Jordan coming as a number two, I can’t see that happening at all. I can’t see any sense in that at all for Jordan.

“If you are thinking of signing Jordan, why are you letting Aaron go? If Aaron does go, I imagine the club would be looking for a more experienced keeper, a number two who knows their role and isn’t going to kick up a fuss or walk around the training ground with a face on.

“When you’re looking at Jordan, where does he go? Do I see Jordan leaving Everton? I don’t think I do. The only reason they would get rid is for FFP but I don’t see why they would need to get rid of him.”

Will Everton and Sean Dyche sell Jordan Pickford amid Arsenal transfer interests?

The Toffees are going to have to cut their cloth accordingly this summer and that is obvious given their current financial position, but they won’t sell players that they cannot afford to replace.

Pickford is likely one of those players and while he is a sellable asset, he is also one of the main reasons the Toffees avoided the drop. Without him, Dyche’s side could well have ended up playing Championship football next year.

It feels much more likely that one of Jarrad Branthwaite, Amadou Onana or Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be sold this summer than the England number one. After all, he is unlikely to be keen to go and sit on the bench behind Raya.

If a move to Chelsea genuinely did come to fruition to allow the English international to play for a Big Six club week in and week out, it could be different, but a summer switch to Arsenal appears to be a no-go.
